Another option from the Tools menu is “Sad Mac Errors.”
 
When this selection is chosen you will see the following screen:
 
To determine the meaning of a Sad Mac error code, perform the following steps from this window.
Step 1
Find the Macintosh model which displayed this error and select it by clicking next to the family. Note: Sad Mac error codes are only found on Macintosh 128k, 512k, 512ke, Mac Plus, Mac SE, Mac SE30, Mac II and Mac Portable models. Most later model Macintoshes don’t have these codes built in and will not display them if start-up fails. Use “None of the above” for Macintoshes that are not specifically listed.
 
Step 2
Enter the Sad Mac error code number or numbers.
Note that you do NOT need to do steps 1 and 2 in any order. Just complete both steps before continuing.
If the number you typed is a documented code for the Mac 128k, 512k, 512ke or Mac Plus, you will see the following screen:
 
The Sad Mac error code on these computers is 1 line long
If the number you typed is a documented code for the Mac SE, Mac SE30, Mac II family, or Mac Portable you will see the following screen:
 
The Sad Mac error code on these computers is 2 lines long
Unknown Sad Mac code
If the number you typed is a unknown code, you will see the following screen:
